Project Overview

Beyond deal discovery, our studio builds robust, direct-to-consumer restaurant commerce engines. Proven across real-world deployments including Saffron and NaanStreet, this platform eliminates third-party delivery marketplace commissions by giving restaurants their own branded storefronts with flexible modifier management, Stripe payments, automated WhatsApp customer alerts, and direct ESC/POS thermal kitchen printing.

Target Audience & Users

Single-venue restaurants, multi-branch dining groups, fast-casual brands, and ghost kitchens seeking direct customer relationships and zero marketplace commission bleed.

Section 02

The Challenge

Third-party delivery portals take 25–35% of gross order value and obscure customer contact information. Standard e-commerce templates fail to handle complex kitchen requirements like modifiers, pickup timing, and automated kitchen printing.

Project Goals
1. Enable commission-free direct online ordering across dine-in, takeaway, and scheduled delivery. 2. Automate kitchen station dispatch via standard 80mm ESC/POS thermal receipt printers. 3. Keep customers updated in real time via automated WhatsApp status messages.
Constraints & Boundary Rules
Fast checkout flow under 45 seconds, reliable printer integration over local network, and clean multi-branch inventory overrides.
Section 03

Our Solution & Engineering Approach

Engineered a lightweight, touch-optimized web ordering application backed by a Node.js/PostgreSQL micro-backend with direct Stripe Elements capture, raw printer ESC/POS command formatting, and automated webhook alerts.

Our Role & Responsibilities

End-to-end UX/UI, modifier catalog modeling, Stripe payment integration, hardware driver scripting for thermal printers, and deployment automation.

How We Worked

The engagement sequence, in the order the decisions actually had to be made.

  1. 01

    Menu structuring

Designed multi-tier catalog architecture with nested options (sizes, spice levels, add-ons).

  2. 02

    Payment capture

Integrated Stripe with instant card authorization and Apple/Google Pay support.

  3. 03

    Hardware testing

Verified ESC/POS network printing across kitchen environments with automated print retry.

  4. 04

    Real-time notifications

Configured WhatsApp Business API triggers for order confirmation, prep, and ready-for-pickup alerts.

What We Learned & What's Next

The honest retrospective — including the parts that shaped later architectural decisions.

Lessons Learned

Kitchen staff under pressure rely on clear paper receipts, not tablet screens. Reliable hardware printing on the expediter line is paramount.

Future Improvements

Bi-directional POS menu syncing, dynamic prep-time adjustments based on kitchen queue, and customer re-order loyalty incentives.
